A cellular biologist by training, Catherine MICHEL has specialised in the study of the fermentative activity of the gut microbiota since completing her PhD. Her current research focuses on the role of host-associated microbiota in perinatal metabolic programming processes. Her aim is to identify bacterial populations or genes of diagnostic or therapeutic interest in relation to non-communicable diseases.
Sébastien DUPERRON Lecturer at the National Museum of Natural History. Integrated approaches to symbiosis between bacteria and animals, and the effect of contaminants on microbial communities in water bodies in peri-urban areas. S.Duperron studies the diversity, functioning and evolution of symbiotic relationships between bacteria and metazoans, which contribute to the adaptation of holobionts to their environment. He is currently developing research into the impact of contaminants, whether anthropogenic or not, on the composition of animal-associated microbiota in continental environments (lakes, ponds, etc.) and during controlled exposure experiments. Another aspect of his research focuses on microbial communities (bacteria, archaea and protists) found in both peri-urban and non-peri-urban water bodies. Particular attention is paid to the impact of contaminants that pose a risk to water users (cyanotoxins, metals, pesticides or endocrine disruptors), as well as to the role of microbial communities in controlling these contaminants and as bioindicators of water quality. |
