Guests:

Amin Mohamed
New York University Abu Dhabi

Amin Mohamed is generally interested in genomics research, where he utilizes different next-gen sequencing (NGS) applications to understand biological systems at different molecular levels. Amin is currently interested in understanding diatom-microbiome interactions and genomic basis of coral adaptation to the Persian/Arabian Gulf (PAG) environment. His work involves various 'omics applications including genome, transcriptome, metagenome sequencing as well as targeted meta-barcoding.

Eric Fouilland
UMR 1496 MARBEC

His research focuses on characterising the interactions between microalgae and bacteria in the marine environment under the influence of local (floods, pollution) and global (climate) changes. His fundamental research has demonstrated that the strongest interactions, of a symbiotic nature, between bacteria and microalgae occur primarily when the microalgae are in a phase of very rapid growth. This observation has numerous applications in the field of algaculture. E. Fouilland is involved in collaborative research projects in partnership with local businesses and national industrial groups, with a view to applying ecological concepts to bioenergy production, water and air purification, and aquaculture through the use of natural or engineered microbial communities.

Since 2018, he has been leading a multidisciplinary thematic network (INNOVAEE) with the aim of developing a strategy to ensure that ecological and environmental sciences are clearly recognised as a source of innovation with significant potential for economic and societal benefits.
